From Nutrition to MSMEs: Pegadaian Builds Resilient Village Ecosystem in Bali
Bali. State-owned pawnshop operator Pegadaian joined hands with Bakti BUMN Volunteers (Batch VIII) in a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening social, economic, environmental, and educational resilience in Aan Village, Klungkung, Bali, from August 14-17.
The program, themed “From Volunteers, For Village Sustainability”, engaged local residents in various community-based activities designed to foster long-term self-reliance and inclusivity.
Health, Environment, and Economy
Volunteers introduced lessons on balanced nutrition and stunting prevention, echoing global sustainable development goals (SDGs) on eradicating hunger and promoting healthy living.
Environmental efforts included planting kaliandra saplings to protect water flow, creating biopore holes to process organic waste, and revitalizing public spaces. These measures contribute to clean water, sustainable settlements, climate action, and ecosystem preservation.
On the economic side, Pegadaian and the volunteers supported micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through training, workshops, and bazaars. The program also explored opportunities for home industries and village-based tourism, helping expand economic prospects in rural areas.
Inspiring the Younger Generation
Education was also a key pillar, with activities designed to encourage children to dream big, build confidence, and embrace environmentally friendly habits from an early age. These initiatives reinforce SDGs on quality education and reducing inequality.
During the village’s Independence Day ceremony on August 17, Tedi Bharata, Deputy for Human Resources, Technology, and Information at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), praised the volunteers’ spirit of service.
“Bakti BUMN is a platform for state-owned enterprise employees to learn while contributing to society. From Aan Village, we see how this positive energy creates real change that we hope will continue to resonate,” Tedi said.
Pegadaian’s ESG Commitment
Eka Pebriansyah, Director of Network and Operations at Pegadaian, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to community development.
“We believe the strength of the nation lies within its people. Through collaboration between volunteers and residents, this program not only brings short-term benefits but also cultivates a healthy, independent, and sustainable village ecosystem. This is the essence of Pegadaian Peduli for Indonesia,” he said.
Pegadaian stressed that its participation aligns with its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Environmental initiatives focused on conservation, social programs empowered MSMEs and children, and governance efforts ensured accountability and alignment with broader state-owned enterprise sustainability policies.
Through this collaboration, Pegadaian reinforced its role not only as a financial institution but also as a driver of sustainable development, showing that ESG values can be applied in tangible ways to directly benefit communities.
