Eastkal Expands Community Programs Across Penajam
Penajam Paser Utara, E. Kalimantan. A company’s presence in a community is measured not only by its business operations, but also by the contribution it makes to the people and environment around it.
In Penajam Paser Utara (PPU), East Kalimantan, PT Pelabuhan Penajam Banua Taka (Eastkal) is seeking to grow alongside the local community through a range of social initiatives spanning education, health, environmental conservation and entrepreneurship.
The initiatives have become increasingly relevant as PPU continues to develop, bringing new opportunities as well as emerging needs for its communities — from strengthening the capacity of younger generations to raising awareness of health and environmental issues and supporting economic independence.
Through its corporate social responsibility programs, Eastkal aims to contribute to these efforts with initiatives closely connected to the everyday needs of people in PPU.
One such initiative is Eastkal Mengajar, or Eastkal Teaches, which provides activities for people across different age groups.
For high school students, the program includes Career Coaching, designed to help students identify their potential while broadening their understanding of education and career options amid changes in the world of work.
The program was held at SMAN 1 Penajam in July 2026, involving 264 students and their teachers. For elementary school students, Eastkal provides basic health education, including an introduction to the Little Doctor program, through activities such as those held at SDN 016 Penajam in August 2026.
Eastkal’s community contributions also extend to health, environmental conservation and entrepreneurship.
In Gunung Seteleng, the company supports local Posyandu community health posts, including through supplementary food assistance for toddlers. Environmental and economic empowerment initiatives include tree planting, support for community waste banks, assistance for Adiwiyata schools, as well as mentoring for local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“Growing in Penajam also means helping Penajam grow. We want children to have the knowledge and skills they need for their future, families to be healthier, the environment to remain protected, and local businesses to benefit from our presence,” said Didit Dwi Prasetiyo, Eastkal director.
“What we do may be simple, but we hope it can create lasting benefits for the people of Penajam.”
Through its initiatives across these areas, Eastkal says it remains committed to being part of Penajam’s community development as the region continues to grow and the needs of its people evolve.
