Jakarta. Muslim philantropic organization Dompet Dhuafa is renovating a number of flood-affected schools in Sumatra.

In late 2025, catastrophic floods and landslides struck Sumatra, affecting Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra. As students welcomed the new semester of 2026, Dompet Dhuafa renovated Meureudu 03 Elementary School, State Islamic Elementary School (MIN) 1, and State Islamic Elementary School (MIN) 4 in Meurah Dua, Pidi Jaya, Aceh. They had cleaned the school area from the mud left by the flood, repaired several damages areas, and repainted the school walls using the construction fund.

Abu Rohmad, a senior official at the Religious Affairs Ministry, thanked Dompet Dhuafa for their assistance.

"This assistance is crucial in ensuring the continuity of teaching and learning after the disaster. We hope that similar support will reach other schools severely affected by the damage and help provide educational facilities for students," Abu Rohmad said, during a visit to MIN 1 Pidie Jaya.

Herdiansah, the deputy chairman of Dompet Dhuafa's bboard, also launched the reopening of Meureudu 03 Public Elementary School. Dompet Dhuafa also distributed school kit packages donated by donors.

"This is just the beginning. If God is willing, there will be more school renovations in other areas. We will also establish dozens of emergency schools in flood-affected areas across three provinces in Sumatra," he said.

Pidie Jaya's regional secretary Munawar Ibrahim said that he hoped the renovations and school supplies aid could motivate the kids.

"We also hope that similar support can continue for other schools severely damaged by the floods, such as MIN 1 Pidie Jaya, MIN 4 Pidie Jaya, and SMPN 1 Pidie Jaya," Munawar said.

Dompet Dhuafa's emergency response team reported that the disaster had affected over 2,300 students. This team of 234 volunteers has helped 23 schools, assisting 209 teachers and 2,341 students.

The national disaster authorities reported that the disaster ruined 1,312 educational facilities in Aceh, as well as some 1,217 others in North Sumatra. As many as 659 educational facilities in West Sumatra also sustained damages.

Dompet Dhuafa also helps provide temporary housing for survivors.

"I commend Dompet Dhuafa for collaborating with the Central Aceh Government in providing temporary housing for the community. This kind of synergy is what we need to accelerate recovery and maintain the community's hope," Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian said.
