Government Needs Rp 529 Billion to Rebuild Disaster-Hit Health Facilities
Jakarta. The Health Ministry needs Rp 529.3 billion ($31.5 million) to fully restore around 3,000 health facilities damaged by recent floods and landslides in Sumatra, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said. The government aims to return all affected facilities to full operational capacity by March 2026.
“Currently, all hospitals and community health centers are operating. Only 21 auxiliary health posts remain from thousands of affected facilities,” Budi said on Wednesday.
The floods and landslides that hit West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh in November killed about 1,200 people and caused tens of trillions of rupiah in damage to infrastructure and housing.
The National Development Planning Ministry (PPN/Bappenas) estimates total rehabilitation and reconstruction needs in the three provinces at Rp 56.3 trillion, covering 2,108 programs over the next three years.
Budi said he formally submitted a funding request to President Prabowo Subianto on Jan. 20, seeking expedited disbursement to accelerate recovery efforts.
Beyond repairing health facilities, the government also plans to renovate around 8,800 homes belonging to health workers affected by the disasters. Beneficiary data have been verified by the Health Ministry and the Ministry of Home Affairs, with funds expected to be disbursed before Eid al-Fitr 2026.
Responding to the proposal, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the request could be accommodated under the disaster task force allocation. Of the Rp 50–60 trillion initially set aside for post-disaster recovery, he said a significant portion remains available.
“Just submit it through Bappenas and the disaster task force mechanism. Once processed, the funds can be released,” he said.
