JakartaPT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI) is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability by intensifying energy efficiency measures and carbon emission reduction initiatives, in line with the global momentum of Earth Hour 2026.

As part of its participation, BNI will switch off lights simultaneously across all operational offices on Saturday, March 28, 2026. The initiative serves not only as a symbolic gesture but also as a tangible step toward advancing low-emission operations across the organization.

BNI Vice President Director Alexandra Askandar said the Earth Hour campaign provides a meaningful platform to strengthen the company’s implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

“Earth Hour represents BNI’s concrete contribution to promoting energy efficiency while preserving the environment,” Alexandra said in a statement.

Beyond the annual campaign, BNI has consistently embedded energy-saving practices into its daily operations. One such initiative includes a policy to turn off office lighting for one hour during lunch breaks, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., across its facilities.

The bank is also actively reducing emissions from business activities by limiting official travel and maximizing the use of remote communication technologies such as teleconferencing.

In building management, BNI continues to optimize energy consumption by installing energy-efficient lighting systems across several key offices, including Grha BNI Sudirman, Plaza BNI BSD, Gedoeng BNI Jakarta Kota, BNI PIK 2 Building, and Menara BNI Pejompongan. Additionally, the operation of air conditioning systems (chillers) is reduced during weekends to further improve energy efficiency.

To enhance performance, BNI has adopted magnetic bearing technology in its cooling systems, minimizing mechanical friction and significantly improving energy efficiency. These efforts are complemented by the integration of renewable energy through solar panel installations at multiple locations.

Currently, BNI has installed solar panels with a total capacity of 3,040 watts at Plaza BNI BSD, as well as 419 solar panels with a combined installed capacity of 230 kW at the BNI PIK 2 Building.

The company has also incorporated green building principles into several facilities, including Menara BNI Pejompongan, Plaza BNI BSD, and the BNI PIK 2 complex, as part of its broader transition toward more sustainable operations.

“BNI will continue to strengthen its sustainability initiatives as part of its responsibility to the environment, society, and all stakeholders,” Alexandra added.

Through these measures, BNI underscores its role as a financial institution that not only prioritizes business performance but also creates long-term value through sustainable finance practices.

This commitment highlights that the transition toward a low-carbon economy is not only driven by green financing, but also by consistent transformation in operational efficiency and environmentally responsible practices.
