BNI Agrees to Fund Geo Dipa Energi's 500 MW Geothermal Power Generation
Jakarta. State-owned bank BNI recently unveiled new credit and trade facilities for geothermal energy company Geo Dipa Energi.
According to a press release, BNI will help finance the construction of a geothermal power plant and support the company's operational activities. The agreement on the 500 megawatts (MW) energy development got signed at the 2025 Indonesia International Sustainability Forum last week. Signing the document were BNI's SEVP of Wholesale Solutions & Value Chain Pancaran Affendi and Geo Dipa Energi's President Director Yudistian Yunis.
"This financing reflects the bank's commitment to support national green energy projects and faster energy transition," BNI's Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo was quoted as saying in the statement.
This is also a strategic step to ensure Indonesia's energy supplies while also making sure that they come from environmentally friendly resources. This also cements BNI's position as bank that actively promotes sustainable finance.
"The synergy with Geo Dipa strengthens BNI's position as a key player in green financing and supports the national agenda towards a sustainable energy future," Okki said.
Geo Dipa Energi manages the Dieng and Patuha geothermal plants. The installed capacity stand at 120 MW, but plans are underway to expand it to 500 MW. Estimates by the International Energy Agency (IEA) show that geothermal power plants produce only 45–80 grams of carbon dioxide per kilowatt-hour (kWh), significantly lower than coal-fired power plants, which produce 900-1,000 grams of carbon dioxide per kWh. Geothermal plants can operate all day long and year-round, making them a reliable and efficient baseload energy source. Geothermal energy sources are also distributed throughout Indonesia, offering significant potential to reduce dependence on energy imports and strengthen national energy independence.
"BNI is committed to continuing to support clean energy projects that provide economic benefits while preserving the environment. We hope this collaboration can be a concrete example of collaboration between the financial and energy sectors in realizing a sustainable future," Okki said.
