Bogor. Bank Shinhan Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and community engagement by carrying out an environment-focused Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in Kampung Kongsi, Kampung Ramah Lingkungan Awi Iuh, RW 07, Cibereum Village, Cisarua District, Bogor Regency.

The initiative was a continuation of the Bank’s consistent efforts to create a positive impact on the environment and the community, reflecting Shinhan Financial Group’s broader vision of Compassionate Finance — a philosophy that integrates business growth with meaningful contribution to society.

The CSR event was held at the Cisarua Community Sports Hall (GOM) and attended by 44 employees, including President Director Mr. Koo Hyunghoe, members of the Board of Directors, and representatives from the local community. The program aimed not only to preserve the environment but also to strengthen collaboration between the private sector and local residents through shared action.

The day began with a plogging activity — a unique one-hour combination of jogging and litter collection — where employees joined hands with local residents to clean the village environment. Participants collected various types of waste, separating recyclables to demonstrate the importance of daily environmental care.

After the activity, the Bank symbolically donated four waste banks, 20 sets of plogging equipment, 20 environmental-themed children’s books, and a bookshelf to the local community reading garden. The donation was officially handed over by Mr. Koo to Mrs. Novita, Head of RW 07, witnessed by community representatives and local authorities.

Before conducting the program, Bank Shinhan Indonesia carried out a preliminary survey to understand the waste management practices in Kampung Kongsi. The findings revealed that residents had already shown creativity in recycling waste into crafts and reusable items, but lacked structured collection facilities.

In response, the Bank initiated the establishment of waste banks — a small-scale community-based system where recyclable materials can be stored, traded, and reused — as part of its ongoing effort to support a sustainable circular economy.

Through this initiative, Bank Shinhan Indonesia aims to promote environmental awareness among its employees and local communities, encourage responsible waste practices, and support cleaner surroundings. The donation of children’s books on environmental topics also demonstrates the Bank’s commitment to instilling sustainability values in the next generation — fostering environmental consciousness from an early age.

“At Bank Shinhan Indonesia, we believe that real sustainability begins with small, collective actions that benefit both people and the planet. Through this CSR activity, we hope to encourage greater awareness among employees and the community that protecting the environment is not just a responsibility but also an opportunity to grow together,” said Mr. Koo Hyunghoe, President Director of Bank Shinhan Indonesia.

The CSR event also provided a moment for employees to experience teamwork beyond the workplace. Many participants expressed that engaging directly with the community allowed them to understand social and environmental challenges more deeply. For the local residents, the program strengthened their sense of partnership with the private sector and inspired them to maintain a cleaner, more sustainable neighborhood.

As part of its broader agenda, this CSR activity was conducted following the Bank’s two-day internal workshop in Bogor, which gathered management and employees to discuss business planning, strategic priorities, and performance improvement for the upcoming year. The workshop emphasized collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth, aligning organizational performance with Shinhan’s global values of integrity and empathy.
