Jakarta. Indonesia is ready to lead nature-based solutions at the 2025 AsiaFlux Conference in Riau’s Pangkalan Kerinci.

The conference is set to take place on Oct. 20-25. The forum will embrace the theme "Nature-Based Solutions for Asia: From Advanced Science and
Technology to Practices". As the name suggests, it will focus on how countries can formulate policies that advance nature-based solutions to drive climate action plans and slash emissions.

“This conference provides a platform for scientists, policymakers, and global stakeholders to share knowledge, advance flux measurement technology, and build collaboration in ecosystem conservation and restoration using nature-based solutions," Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said.

The conference also highlights the importance of cross-sector collaboration in response to climate change, particularly in the management of forestry and other land use (FOLU) sector.

The 2025 AsiaFlux Conference serves as a strating point for Indonesia to achieve FOLU Net Sink and its enhanced nationally determined contribution targets. Indonesia has aimed to slash 31.89 percent of its emissions on its own. However, the country is willing to raise the targeted reduction to 43.20 percent if it receives international support. In the energy sector alone, Indonesia is hoping to slash 358 million tons of CO2-eq, while slashing 140 million tons of CO2-eq in FOLU by 2030.

The FOLU sector is projected to contribute nearly 60 percent of emission reductions that Indonesia had targeted on its own efforts. The 2025 AsiaFlux invites over 350 participants from around the world, including scientists, academics, policymakers, and the private sector. They will gather to discuss key topics such as carbon dynamics, flux measurements, biosphere-atmosphere interactions, and sustainable ecosystem modeling. The conference will feature technical training sessions and an exhibition of the latest technologies related to carbon, water, and energy flux measurements relevant to accelerating emissions reductions.

"We believe that by bringing together experts from across Asia and beyond, the 2025 AsiaFlux will spur new discoveries, build stronger networks, and inspire actionable solutions for a sustainable future,"  Hanif said.
