Sandiaga Implies He Won’t Become Prabowo’s Running Mate Again
Denpasar. Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno indicated on Sunday that there will be no repeat of his pairing with Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 presidential election.
Sandiaga was Prabowo’s running mate in their unsuccessful presidential bid in 2019 and he is now one of the potential candidates for the veep again according to many polls.
But Sandiaga said after he jumped ship for the United Development Party (PPP), it’s unlikely for him to become a ticket mate for a candidate outside of the coalition.
"All decisions are made by the party and the PPP has established a coalition with the PDI-P [Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle],” Sandiaga said during a visit to Denpasar, Bali.
He was responding to journalists asking if he would reunite with Prabowo, who is nominated by his Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) for president like in 2019.
Meanwhile, the PDI-P and the PPP have announced Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo as their pick for 2024 but the candidate for his running mate has yet to be decided.
Sandiaga met with PDI-P Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri during his Bali trip but he said that there was no discussion about the vice president post.
