Paris. Indonesian climber Rajiah Sallsabilah missed out on a bronze medal after being defeated by Poland's Aleksandra Kałucka in the third-place match at the Le Bourget Sport Climbing Venue in the 2024 Paris Olympics on Wednesday. Rajiah clocked in at 8.24 seconds, while Kałucka secured the win with a time of 6.53 seconds.

Another Indonesian representative, Desak Made Rita Musuma Dewi, was eliminated in the quarterfinals. In the gold medal match, Poland's Aleksandra Mirosław emerged victorious, setting a new world and Olympic record with a time of 6.10 seconds, surpassing her previous records. Mirosław defeated China's Deng Li Juan, who finished with a time of 6.18 seconds.

Rajiah advanced to the semifinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics by defeating Emma Hunt from the United States with a time of 6.54 seconds. However, Desak failed to join her, losing to China's Deng Li Juan in the quarterfinals with a time of 6.396 seconds compared to Deng's 6.363 seconds.

In the semifinals, Rajiah faced Deng Li Juan, while the two Polish climbers, Aleksandra Mirosław and Aleksandra Kałucka, competed against each other. Mirosław won the Polish duel, advancing to the final match and securing her status as the Olympic and world record holder.

In the men's speed climbing category, Indonesia's Veddriq Leonardo progressed to the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, another Indonesian climber, Rahmad Adi Mulyono, did not advance past the qualifying round.

During the qualification seeding round, Veddriq broke the world and Olympic records with a time of 4.79 seconds, only to have his record surpassed by USA's Samuel Watson, who posted a time of 4.75 seconds in the elimination heats.

In the elimination heats, Veddriq faced his compatriot Rahmad Adi Mulyono, who had recorded a time of 5.07 seconds in the seeding heats. Unfortunately, Rahmad committed a false start and finished with a time of 5.13 seconds, preventing him from advancing to the quarterfinals.

"Yes, I'm disappointed. I was too eager. If it weren’t for the false start, I would have made it. But in speed climbing, it’s either slipping or a false start," Adi commented.

Next, Veddriq will compete against host country representative Bassa Mawem in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The climber from Pontianak aims to focus on his strategy to secure a win.

"I have the desire to break the record again, but my main focus is on the strategy to win," he added.
