Jakarta. Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto criticized his rival Ganjar Pranowo for his handling of fertilizer shortage during his tenure as the Governor of Central Java.

Prabowo voiced these concerns based on feedback received during his visits to various regions in Central Java, where he met with farmers.

"While I was touring, especially in Central Java, Mr. Ganjar, the farmers there faced difficulties in obtaining fertilizer. They complained that the farmer card you launched made it challenging for them to access fertilizers," Prabowo said during the presidential debate at the General Election Commission (KPU) building in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Prabowo emphasized the significance of the fertilizer issue in supporting agricultural production in Indonesia.

"So, in reality, they want the procurement of fertilizer to be simplified," added Prabowo.

Ganjar defended himself, stating that the fertilizer problem is not exclusive to Central Java but is also prevalent in several other regions.

"I must remind you, Sir, that fertilizer scarcity also occurs in Papua, North Sumatra, East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Kalimantan," he said.

The inaugural presidential debate of the 2024 Presidential Election addresses topics related to governance, law, human rights, corruption eradication, democracy strengthening, public service improvement, and community harmony.

The KPU has set five rounds of presidential and vice-presidential debates for the 2024 Presidential Election, taking place during the election campaign period from November 28, 2023, to February 10, 2024.

The first and second debates are scheduled for December 12 and 22, 2023, respectively, while the third and fourth debates will be held on January 7 and 21, 2024. The final debate will take place on February 4, 2024. All five presidential and vice-presidential debates are held in Jakarta.
