Persija Edge Persib 2-1 in Dramatic Indonesian El Clasico
Jakarta. Persija Jakarta beat archrivals Persib Bandung 2-1 in a dramatic Indonesian El Clasico on Saturday, ending a three-year winless run against their West Java rivals.
Playing before a large crowd at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, Persija took the lead shortly before halftime when Alexander Jeremejeff scored in the 41st minute.
Persib, coached by Igor Tolic, fought back after the break and leveled the score through Balsa Sekulic in the 81st minute.
With the match heading for a draw, Persija coach Shin Tae-yong's decision to use his bench paid off. Substitute Ivan Mamut scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time to give the hosts a 2-1 victory.
The result gives Persija two wins from two matches in the 2026-27 Super League season and leaves the club second in the standings behind Madura United.
The victory was particularly significant for Persija, who had not beaten Persib since 2023. Shin had promised to end the club's poor record against its longtime rival after leading Persija to a win over Borneo FC in the opening match of the season, ending an eight-year wait for victory at the Samarinda club's home ground.
The defeat also triggered a brief disruption in Bogor, West Java, where hundreds of Persib supporters, known as Bobotoh, gathered after watching the match at a cafe.
The supporters spilled onto Jalan Achmad Adnawijaya, also known as Jalan Pandu Raya, causing severe traffic congestion in both directions. Traffic from the Jambu Dua area reportedly backed up for about 2 kilometers, while vehicles from eastern Bogor were delayed as far as Simpang Taman Corat-Coret.
Police and military personnel later arrived and asked the supporters to leave the road. Traffic gradually returned to normal after the crowd dispersed.
