Jakarta. Indonesian authorities will deploy 17,800 personnel to secure Saturday’s highly anticipated Persija Jakarta-Persib Bandung match at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium, as police prepare for heightened security around one of Indonesian football’s biggest rivalries.

Persija Jakarta are scheduled to host Persib Bandung in the second week of the 2026-2027 Super League season. The match is widely regarded as Indonesia’s “El Clasico,” reflecting the long-standing rivalry between the two clubs and their supporters.

Security will cover not only the stadium and its surrounding areas but also routes commonly used by supporters traveling to and from the venue, Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Budi Hermanto said Friday.

Police are urging fans to maintain peace and sportsmanship during the match, which has been designated as a major fixture on the national football calendar.

The 17,800 personnel will come from the Indonesian Military (TNI), National Police, Jakarta provincial government, and stadium stewards.

Fans are prohibited from bringing firearms, bladed weapons, alcohol, bottles, and explosive materials into the stadium.

Police also apologized for potential traffic disruptions and said traffic engineering measures would be implemented around the GBK area.

The match allows Persija to play at the national stadium, a move police described as an honor for both clubs and their supporters.

Authorities said the security operation aims to ensure the rivalry remains a sporting contest while promoting unity, safety, and sportsmanship.
