Jakarta. Jakarta police on Monday uncovered nearly 1,500 motorcycles without valid ownership documents at a warehouse in South Jakarta, with authorities suspecting the vehicles were being prepared for illegal export sales.

Police spokesperson Chief Commissioner Budi Hermanto said some of the motorcycles had already been dismantled into separate components to facilitate packaging and shipment from the warehouse located on Jalan Kemandoran, Grogol Utara, Kebayoran Lama.

“Practices like this pose a serious threat. Storage facilities for vehicles without valid documents can become spaces that enable repeated motorcycle theft and robbery,” Budi said.

Iman Imannudin, director of criminal investigations at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, said authorities seized 1,494 motorcycles from the site. Of those, 957 units remained intact, while another 537 had already been dismantled.

Investigators suspect the motorcycles were intended for export to Togo and Tahiti, he said.

“The vehicles are suspected to have originated from criminal activities. Related parties were unable to provide valid ownership proof, such as invoices or other vehicle documents,” Iman said.

Police have named one suspect identified by the initials WS in connection with the case.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the possible involvement of a broader network, including suppliers of the motorcycles and parties allegedly responsible for shipping the vehicles abroad, including to Tahiti and Togo.

According to Iman, the suspect had allegedly sold thousands of motorcycles to the two destinations since 2022.

“At this stage, we have named only one suspect. However, the investigation is still being expanded because this case is suspected to involve interconnected networks,” he said.
