Jokowi Inaugurates Reconstruction of Earthquake-Affected Infrastructure in West Sulawesi
Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated the reconstruction of infrastructure buildings following the 6.2-magnitude earthquake in West Sulawesi on January 15, 2021.
Jokowi announced that the government had reconstructed and rehabilitated a total of 147 buildings affected by the earthquake.
"Praise God, thanks to our hard work, today we will inaugurate 147 buildings that have been rehabilitated and reconstructed in West Sulawesi following the earthquake disaster," said Jokowi in a video posted on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Tuesday.
However, Jokowi admitted that there were still some infrastructure projects pending, including the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) building and one mosque.
Jokowi explained that the government had allocated a budget of Rp 1.31 trillion ($80.7 million) for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the buildings.
These buildings included 47 office buildings, 29 health facilities, 43 educational facilities, one place of worship, one sports facility, seven apartment buildings, two traditional houses, and 17 drinking water facilities.
Furthermore, Jokowi mentioned that one of the reconstructed buildings, SMKN 1 Rangas High School, where the inauguration ceremony was held, would have a dormitory built.
"The school principal mentioned to me earlier, 'Sir, this is still lacking. The students need a dormitory because many of them come from far away, so they have to rent rooms around the school.' So, we will build the dormitory later, as requested by the school principal, the regent, and the governor," said Jokowi.
On the same occasion, Jokowi also inaugurated three sections of the regional road totaling 22.4 kilometers.
