Jakarta. Residents across Greater Jakarta were urged to remain on alert on Saturday as heavy rain was forecast to return to the capital and its surrounding areas.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned that much of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi could see rainfall ranging from light to very heavy throughout the day. The conditions increase the risk of flooding and strong winds in several areas.

According to BMKG, moderate to heavy rain is expected across all five municipalities of Jakarta, including the Thousand Islands, as well as Bogor city and regency. Areas facing the highest risk of heavy to very heavy rain include Tangerang city and regency, South Tangerang, Bekasi city and regency, and Depok. A separate early warning for strong winds covers nearly the entire Greater Jakarta region.

The weather alert comes as flooding continues to affect parts of Jakarta. As of Saturday morning, floodwaters were still inundating 90 neighborhood units (RTs) and nine major roads, although authorities said water levels had begun to recede compared with the previous day.

Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) spokesperson Mohamad Yohan said the worst flooding was recorded in Cawang, East Jakarta, where water levels reached up to 2.5 meters. The flooding was triggered by the overflow of the Ciliwung River following high upstream water from Bogor.

In West Jakarta, prolonged heavy rain has submerged residential areas in Rawa Buaya, Cengkareng, for two days, disrupting daily activities. Aerial monitoring showed flood depths of 30 to 70 centimeters in some neighborhoods, affecting mostly single-story homes. Residents said the area is prone to flooding due to its low-lying terrain and overflow from the Mookevart canal.

In North Jakarta’s Kapuk Muara, floodwaters of up to 80 centimeters forced emergency responses. Indonesian Army personnel, together with local health workers, distributed food, snacks and medicines by rubber boat, while medical teams conducted health checks.

BPBD data showed at least 1,349 residents had been displaced and sought refuge in safer locations as of Friday night. Authorities urged residents to stay vigilant as heavy rain is expected to persist.
