BMKG Warns of Thunderstorms Across Parts of Indonesia
Jakarta. Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Tuesday forecast light to moderate rainfall across many parts of the country, with thunderstorms expected in several regions, urging residents to remain alert.
BMKG forecaster Adelia said western Indonesia would be dominated by light rain and thick cloud cover, with some cities at risk of thunderstorms.
“Thunderstorms are expected in parts of western Indonesia, including Palembang,” Adelia said in a daily weather briefing cited by Antara.
Light rain is forecast to fall across much of Sumatra, while cloudy to overcast conditions are expected in several major cities, including Banda Aceh, Tanjung Pinang, Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta.
Light showers are also expected in Serang, Semarang and Surabaya, she added.
In Kalimantan, rainfall intensity is expected to be higher in some areas. Pontianak and Banjarmasin are forecast to see heavier rain, while Palangkaraya may experience moderate rainfall. Light rain is expected in Tanjung Selor and Samarinda.
Weather conditions in Bali and Nusa Tenggara are expected to be relatively milder, with light to moderate rain forecast in Denpasar and Mataram.
Parts of Sulawesi are expected to see moderate rainfall, particularly in Mamuju and Kendari, while most other areas on the island are likely to experience light rain.
In eastern Indonesia, Maluku and Papua are also forecast to see light to moderate rainfall. Moderate rain is expected in Kupang, Nabire and Merauke, while Ternate may experience thick cloud cover.
Adelia said the forecast provides a general overview of weather conditions and may change. The public is advised to monitor updated forecasts through BMKG’s official website or its Info BMKG mobile application, which provides hourly updates.
