Chengdu.- The Indonesian badminton team secured a 4-1 victory against Thailand in a Group C match of the Thomas Cup at the Hi Tech Zone Sports Centre Gymnasium on Monday.

The winning point was sealed by men's singles player Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, who defeated Nachakom Pusri with scores of 21-11 and 21-10 in just 35 minutes.

Earlier, Indonesia took the lead with Anthony Sinisuka Ginting's triumph over Panitchapon Teeraratsakul with scores of 21-16, 21-13.

"This is our first encounter, so I was still trying to figure out my opponent's playing patterns. Besides that, I had to adjust my own game plan and adapt to the court conditions," Ginting said after the match.

The Thomas Cup Indonesian team was then held to a 1-1 draw by Thailand. In the second match, the duo of Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto suffered a defeat against Peeratchai Sukphun/Pakkapon Teeraratsakul.

In a three-game match lasting 52 minutes, Fajar/Rian lost with scores of 19-21, 21-14, and 11-21.

The Indonesian Thomas Cup team regained the lead against Thailand. Indonesia secured a 2-1 advantage after Jonatan Christie defeated Saran Jamsri in the third match.

In a three-game match lasting 1 hour and 10 minutes, Jonatan Christie won with scores of 21-16, 13-21, and 21-12.

The pair of Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin ensured Indonesia's 3-1 victory over Thailand. Playing in the fourth match, Leo/Daniel defeated Sirawit/Natthapat Trinkajee with scores of 21-13, and 21-10 in just 34 minutes.

"We acknowledge that the Thai pair played very well. They are on an upward trend and have a good combination. One of them is a playmaker with delicate net shots, while the other has very strong power," Fajar said after the match.

Before Chico's match, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting opened Indonesia's lead with his victory over Panitchapon Teeraratsakul. Ginting won with scores of 21-16, and 21-13 in 42 minutes.

The Thomas and Uber Cup 2024 are being held at the Chengdu High-tech Zone Sports Center Gymnasium from April 27 to May 5, 2024.

Indonesia's badminton team is placed in Group C along with strong nations like India, Thailand, and England. Meanwhile, the Indonesian women's badminton team is also in Group C with Japan, Hong Kong, and Uganda.

Earlier, the Thomas and Uber Indonesia teams won their opening matches with perfect 5-0 victories over Hong Kong and England, respectively, on Saturday.
