Indonesia Rules Out $1 Billion Contribution to Board of Peace
Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has denied that Indonesia committed to paying $1 billion to the Board of Peace, a US-initiated international body, emphasizing that Jakarta’s contribution is limited to peacekeeping support rather than financial funding.
In remarks published on the president’s official YouTube channel on Sunday, Prabowo said Indonesia had never agreed to make a financial contribution to the organization, despite reports suggesting otherwise.
“They said there are two types of membership — if you want to become a permanent or premium member, you are asked to contribute $1 billion. But I never said we were willing to pay $1 billion,” Prabowo said.
He added that Indonesia’s position had been clear since a donor meeting in Washington on Feb. 19, which he attended without making any financial commitment.
Instead of providing funding, Prabowo said Indonesia had offered to contribute peacekeeping forces, particularly in support of Palestine, once conditions on the ground allow for a ceasefire.
“Indonesia is not on the list of financial contributors because I did not commit any money. But we are ready to provide peacekeeping troops, in whatever number is required,” he said.
The clarification was aimed at dispelling concerns that Indonesia’s state budget could be burdened by a large international financial obligation.
Prabowo stressed that Indonesia’s involvement in global humanitarian efforts, including in Palestine, would remain measured and aligned with developments on the ground. In addition to its readiness to deploy peacekeepers, Indonesia has contributed through humanitarian initiatives, including the construction of healthcare facilities in conflict-affected areas.
According to its official website, the Board of Peace is an international organization focused on promoting stability, restoring governance, and securing long-term peace in conflict-affected regions.
Indonesia is among the 28 founding members of the organization, alongside countries including Vietnam and Cambodia.
