Indonesia Moves Closer to Next World Cup Qualifying Round with 3-0 Win in Vietnam
Jakarta. Indonesia bolstered its prospects of advancing to the third round of the World Cup qualifiers with a commanding 3-0 triumph over host Vietnam on Tuesday evening.
The Garuda team extended their lead as runners-up in Group F, now boasting a four-point advantage over Vietnam. Iraq remains the group leader with a flawless 12 points from four games.
The top two teams from each group will secure qualification to the third round.
Indonesia seized an early advantage courtesy of first-half goals by Dutch-born naturalized players Jay Idzes and Ragnar Oratmangoen.
Idzes broke the deadlock with a towering header from a corner kick delivered by fellow Dutch-born player Thom Haye in the ninth minute. Oratmangoen doubled Indonesia's lead with a sensational strike from a tight angle, maneuvering past four Vietnamese defenders before beating goalkeeper Nguyen Filip with a precision-driven shot 23 minutes into the contest.
Ramadhan Sananta sealed Indonesia’s victory in injury time, capitalizing on Vietnam’s defensive lapse that failed to clear a long-distance effort, leaving him unmarked in front of an open goal.
Indonesia had previously defeated Vietnam in Jakarta last week with a solitary goal by Egy Maulana Vikri.
This marks the first occasion Indonesia has secured three consecutive victories against Vietnam, following another triumph at the Asian Cup last year.
Two matches remain in Group F for Indonesia, against the Philippines and Iraq.
