Jakarta. Ganjar Pranowo reiterated on Tuesday that he will not be part of Prabowo Subianto's future government following his defeat in the presidential election held on Feb. 14.

He argued that the recent election was not solely about the pursuit of power but also about upholding principles and democratic values.

"As I mentioned yesterday... I will refrain from participating in the forthcoming government to show my respect for the election winner and to emphasize my decision to remain outside the government," Ganjar said during a gathering with his supporters in Cikini, Jakarta.

"We owe it to the public to understand that political competition transcends mere power struggles or the allocation of power; it is also about the values, programs, and positions that we stand for," he added.

However, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician offered some advice to Prabowo who is assembling his cabinet ahead of the presidential inauguration in October.

Ganjar recommended that Prabowo and his running mate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, prioritize the appointment of professionals who are responsive to change, rather than focusing solely on power-sharing with their allies.

"The most effective cabinet would consist of professionals who are adaptable to changing circumstances," Ganjar suggested.

He also cautioned against expanding the size of the cabinet, noting that the existing law limits the number of ministries to 34.

"If there is a desire to accommodate allies, ministerial positions may not be the appropriate avenue. I trust that the elected president and vice president are fully cognizant of this," Ganjar said.
