Jakarta. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala recently congratulated Prabowo Subianto’s victory at the presidential election although the General Election Commission (KPU) has yet to announce the official results.

Fiala sent the congratulatory message on the social media X, formerly known as Twitter, via his official Twitter account @P_Fiala.

“Congratulations to H.E. @prabowo Subianto for winning the 2024 Indonesian presidential elections,” Fiala posted on Wednesday night.

“Remembering my visit to your beautiful country less than a year ago, let me wish you a smooth transition as well as our readiness to strengthen bilateral relations between our two countries,” Fiala said.

Preliminary results showed that Prabowo, who currently serves as the defense minister, had secured a landslide victory in this election, defeating Former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and former Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo. However, KPU is scheduled to reveal the official results on March 20 at the latest.

Last April, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo hosted Fiala for a visit at the Bogor Palace. Fiala also told Jokowi that the Czech Republic sought to help Indonesia modernize its army.

Also in 2023, Czech industrial technological holding Czechoslovak Group and Indonesian defense firm Republikorp signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the joint production of the ADS-400 intermediate air defense missile complex. Republikorp at the time said the ADS-400 was an air defense missile complex equipped with missiles, launchers, and radars to protect an area from fifth-generation fighters, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and cruise missiles.

The Czech Republic is a European Union (EU) member. Indonesia and the EU are currently negotiating a comprehensive economic partnership agreement. Indonesia has set a goal to wrap up the negotiations this year. According to the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Indonesia-Czech trade totaled $254.9 million in 2022, up by 11 percent from the previous year.
