Jakarta. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak sent a congratulatory letter to Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto for his success in the 2024 Presidential Election.

As of Saturday, according to real count results from the General Election Commission (KPU), Prabowo is leading the race with 57 percent of the votes, followed by Anies Baswedan at 25 percent and Ganjar Pranowo at 18 percent.

The congratulatory letter from Sunak was delivered directly to Prabowo by the British Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey, at Prabowo's official residence in Widya Chandra, South Jakarta.

Quoted from Dominic Jermey's account on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, the British Ambassador expressed gratitude for Prabowo's hospitality during their meeting.

"Thank you Bapak @Prabowo for your hospitality yesterday. A pleasure to discuss all that lies ahead and the great things our countries can achieve together. I was honored to pass on a letter of congratulations from @RishiSunak on your success in #pemilu2024," wrote Jermey, referring to the Indonesian word for “election”.

He also congratulated all Indonesian citizens who exercised their voting rights in the largest democratic celebration. Indonesia held the world’s largest single-day election on Wednesday. Hundreds of millions of people selected President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s successor that day, along with provincial and national lawmakers.

"I also congratulate hundreds of thousands of candidates who campaigned across the archipelago. A truly epic festival of democracy #pemilu2024,"  Jermey added.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his congratulations to Prabowo Subianto on Friday for his "convincing victory" in the presidential election and expressed optimism for strengthened bilateral ties with Indonesia under the future president.

"Dear Mr. Prabowo Subianto, please accept my sincere congratulations on your convincing victory in the presidential election. Indonesian-Russian relations are built on benevolent traditions of friendship and mutual respect, successfully evolving in various areas," Putin said.

Other leaders who have reached out to congratulate Prabowo include Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Meanwhile, the United States said it is looking forward to the official final tally of Indonesia's 2024 election. “This vote was a testament to the durability and strength of the Indonesian people’s commitment to the democratic process and electoral institutions. We look forward to the General Election Commission’s announcement of the official election results,” US Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a press statement sent to the Jakarta Globe on Thursday.
