Bogor. Australia-born striker Mitchell Baker marked his debut for Indonesia with a hat-trick as the hosts cruised to a 5-1 victory over Cambodia in their opening Group A match of the 2026 ASEAN Championship (AFF Cup) on Monday.

Playing before a packed home crowd at Pakansari Stadium in Bogor, Indonesia stormed into a three-goal lead within the opening 24 minutes through Baker's strikes in the sixth and 15th minutes, followed by a goal from Sandy Walsh in the 24th.

Baker, 19, became an Indonesian citizen just two weeks ago. The Georgetown University forward qualifies for Indonesia through his grandfather, who was born in Yogyakarta, and his grandmother, who is from Semarang, Central Java.

Cambodia pulled one back shortly after halftime when goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata inadvertently turned a speculative effort into his own net in the 48th minute.

Indonesia quickly restored control as Baker completed his hat-trick in the 56th minute before Jens Raven sealed the victory with a late goal in the 87th.

"It's a dream come true. We'll enjoy this victory, but we have another match in a few days. We still have to keep working hard," he said.

"The stadium was incredible. The supporters were amazing for the full 90 minutes. It's the best experience I've ever had."
