Ye Concert Draws 25,000 Foreign Visitors to Jakarta, Immigration Says
Jakarta. Indonesia recorded a surge of about 25,000 foreign visitors to Jakarta ahead of American rapper Ye’s concert, formerly known as Kanye West, at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Saturday, the immigration authority said Monday.
Immigration Director General Hendarsam Marantoko said arrivals of foreign nationals rose sharply in the days leading up to the concert, peaking at 10,000 on Oct. 23.
“We recorded a significant increase in foreign arrivals, particularly in the three days before the concert,” Hendarsam said in a written statement.
The number of foreign arrivals increased by 1,000 on Oct. 21 and 4,700 on Oct. 22 before reaching 10,000 a day on Oct. 23, he said.
Foreign arrivals remained elevated on Oct. 24, when Jakarta also hosted the Jakarta Running Festival 2026. Immigration data showed that 9,700 foreign nationals entered the country that day, Hendarsam said, citing figures from the Foreigners Reporting Application (APOA).
The influx of international visitors is expected to benefit businesses across several sectors, including transportation, hospitality, food and beverage, and retail.
Indonesia’s immigration authority issued 88 sport and performer visas for Ye and members of his entourage, Hendarsam said.
“When a world-class musician performs in Indonesia, it is not only the artist and crew who come, but also fans from various countries,” he said. “They use transportation, stay in hotels, enjoy local cuisine and shop. This means many sectors of the economy are also moving.”
The immigration authority said it had streamlined services to accommodate foreign visitors attending major entertainment and sporting events while maintaining security and immigration oversight to prevent potential criminal activity.
Jakarta’s ability to host international events could help attract more global concerts and sporting competitions to Indonesia, Hendarsam said.
“We want more international events to come to Indonesia and bring benefits to the public,” he said, adding that the authority aimed to provide accessible, modern immigration services while maintaining effective supervision.
