Pekanbaru. Veteran Malay pop band Wali attracted thousands of spectators at the Semesta Berpesta music festival in Pekanbaru, Riau, on Saturday night.

Wali was the final performer of the show, yet the concert venue at the Rusmin Nurjadin Air Force Base remained packed until the last song was sung.

"Thank you BTV, United Tractors, FIF, Astrapay, and Cedea for this grand event. Let’s go!” lead vocalist Farhan Zainal Muttaqin, also known as Faank, shouted to a thunderous response from Parawali, the band’s fans.

The 25-year-old band delighted fans with classic hits such as “Cari Berkah” (Seeking Blessings), “Si Udin Bertanya” (Udin Asks a Question), and “Nenekku Pahlawanku” (My Grandma, My Heroine).

"We arrived here before dusk just for Wali," said a fan named Diana.

A shower of rain came in the middle of the show but it didn’t bother visitors.

“The fans are amazing. They stayed to enjoy the show despite the rain. What a blessing for us,” Wali guitarist Aan Kurnia or Apoy told BTV network after the show.

Three other bands performed earlier, including Okaay -- the duet of Okin and singer Kay -- Enau, and Repvblik.

Pekanbaru is the fourth city to host Semesta Berpesta this year, following events in Tasikmalaya, Cirebon, and Surabaya.

Like the inaugural event last year, the colossal music festival will visit 12 cities overall this year. The next edition is scheduled for next week in Palembang, the capital of South Sumatra.
