Tangerang. After nearly three decades, rock band /Rif has maintained the energy and endurance they need in live performance, as evident during the music fest Semesta Berpesta in Tangerang where they performed as the opening band on Saturday afternoon.

Lead singer Andy Rif, whose real name is Restu Triandy, ran along the stage and sang with the concert-goers, some of them familiar faces to him.

“I still remember their faces. The funny thing is they now come with their children,” Andy said after the show.

“They were still teenagers when they joined the /Rif fan’s club and followed our tours. I’m so happy for that,” the 54-year-old said.

The band from the West Java capital of Bandung was established in 1994 but not until 1997 when their first album “Radja” became a hit and /Rif emerged as one of Indonesia’s most popular bands then.

Saturday’s event featured five bands altogether in the opening round of the 12-city tour. Radja rock band, not to be confused with /Rif’s song title, came next, followed by Anji, Pamungkas, and Isyana Sarasvati.

The Semesta Berpesta inaugural show at the International Convention and Exhibition (ICE) building's parking ground in Tangerang will continue on Sunday with different performers, before moving to Bekasi next weekend.

Radja’s lead singer Iandhika Mulya Ramadhan was impressed by how the event was organized.

“People come here with their families not just to enjoy music, but also food and games. This is cool,” he said.
