Odense. Indonesia’s men’s singles ace Jonatan Christie advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 Denmark Open after a hard-fought three-game victory over China’s Li Shi Feng on Friday. The match, played at the Jyske Bank Arena in Odense, ended with scores of 21-18, 21-23, 21-17.

The quarterfinal clash was tightly contested from the outset, with both players engaging in long rallies and power exchanges. Jonatan, popularly known as Jojo, looked dominant at several points but had to endure a late surge from Li, who forced the match into a deciding game after saving multiple points in the second set.

“Thank God, I’m grateful to reach another semifinal and feel the atmosphere of a Super 750 event again after quite some time,” Jonatan said after the match. “I played well today, but there are still things I need to improve for tomorrow.”

Jonatan admitted that he lost focus in the second game despite holding a commanding 16–10 lead. “In that game, I was not patient enough. When he started catching up, I kept forcing the pace instead of controlling it, which made him more comfortable,” he explained. “In the third game, I played with more composure and varied my tempo between fast and slow.”

The 27-year-old shuttler also praised his opponent’s fighting spirit. “There hasn’t been much change in Li Shi Feng’s game since we last met last year. He has an incredible never-give-up attitude, and that was evident in today’s match,” he said.

The victory keeps Indonesia’s hopes alive for a men’s singles title at the Denmark Open Super 750 tournament, where Jonatan now aims to continue his strong run into the final.
