Indonesia Sees Jump in Foreign Tourist Arrivals in July, Led by Malaysia
Jakarta. Indonesia recorded a rise in foreign tourist arrivals in July 2025, with Malaysia remaining the largest source of visitors, official data showed Monday.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported 1.48 million foreign arrivals in July, a 4.62 percent increase from the previous month and up 13.01 percent from a year earlier.
Malaysian travelers continued to dominate, accounting for 14.32 percent of total arrivals, or about 212,000 visits. However, arrivals from Malaysia slipped 0.28 percent compared with June.
“Malaysia contributed the largest share of international visitors in July,” said Pudji Ismartini, BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, in a virtual briefing.
After Malaysia, the biggest contributors were tourists from Australia and China. Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport served as the main entry point, with most arrivals from Australia.
“The increase in arrivals through Ngurah Rai Airport was partly driven by the Australian winter school holiday,” Pudji said.
From January to July, Indonesia welcomed 8.53 million foreign tourists, marking a 10.04 percent rise from the same period last year’s 7.75 million.
Domestic tourism also showed strong growth. BPS recorded 100.2 million trips by Indonesian travelers in July, up 29.72 percent from a year earlier. Cumulatively, domestic trips reached 713.98 million in the first seven months of 2025, an increase of 19.25 percent year-on-year.
