Coldplay Ticket Scam Victims Lodge Police Report
Jakarta. Fourteen people, who got scammed out of tens of millions of rupiahs for Coldplay’s Jakarta concert tickets, recently lodged a report at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
These unfortunate fans of the British rock band reported a total loss of almost Rp 30 million ($2,013), according to the victims’ attorney Zainul Arifin.
“The victims came from several regions outside the Greater Jakarta area, and got scammed,” Zainul told Beritasatu.
The scammers lured the victims with a buying service scheme, popularly known as jastip, on social media. Zainul alleged the involvement of some people from the ticket promoters. With the tickets running out fast and the waiting room quickly reaching its full, many tried to look for someone on social media to secure the tickets for them.
“So we suspect that the tickets were distributed to the agents who later blocked all access. People would struggle to access the Coldplay tickets, and go find other ways [to get them] on social media,” Zainul said.
Zainul urged the police to set up a call center for other Coldplay ticket scam victims. A call center would make it easier for victims outside the Greater Jakarta area to file a police report, he added.
Coldplay is slated to perform at Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Nov. 15, 2023.
