Indonesian Coldplay Fans Frustrated by Overcrowded Ticketing System
Jakarta. Countless Indonesians —young and old— on Friday morning had their eyes glued to their screen as they tried to get their hands on Coldplay’s upcoming Jakarta concert tickets.
The online public ticket sale began at 10 a.m. Jakarta time. Before choosing the category, users had to get in a queue. The waiting room even had more than 500,000 users. A few hours after the online sale started, the concert’s promotor PK Entertainment announced that Coldplay had sold out all tickets.
“All tickets for the Coldplay Music of The Spheres world tour Jakarta are officially sold out!” PK Entertainment posted on its official Instagram account.
Many Coldplay fans immediately rushed to PK Entertainment's comment section after the sale ended, demanding the band to add a second date. Others are blaming scalpers and bots for causing the waiting room to reach overcapacity within just a few minutes.
“I’m bummed. I have given it my all but I had to lose to the scalpers and bots. *when you try your best, but you don’t succeed*,” @cabin.by.vero commented, referring to the opening line to Coldplay’s “Fix You”.
“Even if there is a day-2 or day-3, we will certainly lose to those annoying scalpers and bots,” @dramakpop_santuy said.
Twitter also saw many scalpers immediately selling their freshly bought tickets for more than their original price with the tag “WTS” (short for “want to sell”). CAT 4 tickets originally sold for Rp 2.5 million ($167). But scalpers on Twitter are seen selling the CAT 4 tickets for Rp 7 million.
The Coldplay concert is slated for Nov. 15 at the Gelora Bung Karno stadium in Jakarta.
