Black Night for Fans as Deep Purple Cancels Jakarta Concert
Jakarta. British rock band Deep Purple has canceled its upcoming concert in Jakarta scheduled for April 18, citing circumstances beyond the band’s control.
The announcement was made through the band’s official Instagram account on Friday, confirming that the show at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium complex in Senayan will no longer take place.
“It is with great disappointment that Deep Purple will not be performing at the Indonesia Arena GBK Senayan show in Jakarta next month,” the band said in the statement.
“Due to circumstances outside the band’s control, Deep Purple will not go ahead on April 18th,” the statement added.
The band said the decision was difficult, as they never intend to disappoint their fans.
“Deep Purple never wish to disappoint our fans which makes the news equally saddening and frustrating,” the band said.
Organizers are expected to announce details of ticket refunds soon. According to the band, refunds will be processed through the original ticketing platforms used for the purchase.
The Jakarta concert had been anticipated as the band’s return to Indonesia decades after its previous performance in the country.
Deep Purple last performed in Indonesia in 1975. The upcoming show had also been planned to feature a collaboration with Indonesian rock group Slank.
Formed in 1968 in England, Deep Purple is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal. The band rose to global prominence in the early 1970s with albums such as Machine Head and the iconic song Smoke on the Water. Despite multiple lineup changes over the decades, the band has remained active for more than five decades and continues to tour globally. Deep Purple was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, cementing its legacy as one of rock’s most influential acts.
