Jakarta LRT: Everything Ready Except Green Light From City Administration
Jakarta. The Jakarta Light Rail Transit has all the certifications required for it to start commercial operations, a spokeswoman said.
"We have obtained several certifications, such as human resources certification, standard operating procedure certification, up to technical infrastructure recommendations from the Ministry of Transportation," Jakarta LRT spokeswoman Melisa Suciati said on Wednesday.
The Jakarta administration and the Regional Representatives Council (DPRD) have set an initial flat-rate fare of Rp 5,000 (35 US cents) for the LRT.
The first phase of the Jakarta LRT stretches from Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta to Rawamangun in East Jakarta.
The six stations are Pegangsaan Dua (main depot), North Boulevard, South Boulevard, Pulomas, Equestrian and Velodrome. Construction for all the stations has been completed, aside from the main depot at Pegangsaan Dua, which has reached 95 percent completion.
The Jakarta LRT will continue improving its trains, station facilities, signaling, ticketing and electrical systems before the start of commercial operations, which can only occur once the Jakarta governor has officially inaugurated it.
Melisa said the company had sent a letter to the provincial administration at the beginning of last month to inform it about the Jakarta LRT's readiness to start commercial operations. However, the company is still waiting for a response.
"Jakarta Propertindo, as the developer [of the Jakarta LRT], has sent a letter about the operational readiness on April 2, 2019," Melisa said.
"If the date has been set, we will plan what the inauguration would look like. The concept has not yet been discussed, because we don’t know the date yet," she added.
