Jakarta. Shell Indonesia on Sunday announced the resumption of retail fuel sales in Greater Jakarta and Bandung after being largely absent from the market for more than a month.

However, the only fuel product currently available is Shell V-Power Diesel, priced at Rp 30,890 per liter, more than double its Rp 14,620 per liter price recorded on March 1.

“Thank you for your patience. Shell V-Power Diesel is gradually becoming available again at Shell fuel stations,” the company said through its Instagram account.

According to the company’s official announcement, Shell V-Power Diesel is now being distributed in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, and Bandung. Gasoline products, however, remain unavailable, similar to conditions seen in recent months.

The sharp increase in diesel prices mirrors broader global energy market trends following escalating tensions in the Middle East, which have pushed crude oil prices above $100 per barrel.

Shell’s fuel supply disruptions began after the company announced plans in May 2025 to sell its retail fuel business in Indonesia to Citadel Pacific Limited and Sefas Group. The transaction includes around 200 Shell gas stations across Indonesia.

The Indonesian government later introduced a policy prohibiting private fuel retailers from importing fuel and crude oil directly, appointing Pertamina as the country’s sole fuel importer.

Shell initially objected to the regulation and did not immediately submit fuel purchase commitments through Pertamina. Since then, most Shell outlets have experienced severe supply shortages and halted retail operations, particularly for gasoline products.
