Indonesia’s Premium Diesel Nears Rp 28,000/Liter After Sharp Price Hike
Jakarta. Indonesia has raised prices for high-grade diesel fuel to near-record levels, while keeping subsidized fuels unchanged, in a move aimed at balancing commercial considerations with public affordability.
State energy firm Pertamina increased the price of its premium diesel product, Pertamina Dex, by 16.7% to Rp 27,900 ($1.6) per liter effective Monday, marking the highest level since the brand was introduced.
According to a new pricing list released by its sales and distribution arm Pertamina Patra Niaga, the mid-tier diesel product Dexlite also saw a significant increase, rising from Rp 23,600 to Rp 26,000 per liter.
Gasoline prices were adjusted more moderately. The high-octane Pertamax Turbo (RON 98) rose to Rp 19,900 per liter from Rp 19,400.
However, Pertamina left prices for other gasoline products unchanged, with Pertamax remaining at Rp 12,300 per liter and Pertamax Green at Rp 12,900 per liter.
Subsidized fuels also saw no changes. Pertalite gasoline remains priced at Rp 10,000 per liter, while Biosolar diesel stays at Rp 6,800 per liter.
Corporate Secretary Roberth Dumatubun said the company maintained prices for certain products to strike a balance between business sustainability and public interest.
“We are not solely considering commercial factors, but also current social conditions, purchasing power among non-subsidized fuel users, and national stability,” Roberth said in a statement.
He added that as a state-owned enterprise, Pertamina plays a role in maintaining stability by ensuring its pricing remains competitive relative to other fuel providers.
The price increases are focused on fuel products aimed at higher-income consumers who are less sensitive to market-driven adjustments, he said.
Economists have previously warned that rising prices for mid-tier fuels could push more consumers toward subsidized options, potentially increasing pressure on the state budget.
