Pertamina Director Removed after Deadly Fire at Oil Depot
Jakarta. A director at state-run oil company Pertamina has been removed from his post days after a devastating fire broke out at the company's oil depot in North Jakarta and engulfed nearby houses, killing at least 19 people.
Pertamina's business support director Dedi Sunardi was dismissed by State-Owned Enterprise Minister Erick Thohir, company spokesman Fadjar Djoko Santoso confirmed on Wednesday.
He didn't say if the decision has anything to do with the oil depot fire.
"On behalf of the company, we thank him for his dedication and contribution while holding the post," Fadjar said of Dedi, who assumed the post in May 2021.
The vacant post will be handled by Erry Widiastono, currently the logistics and infrastructure director of Pertamina, Fadjar added.
Before joining Pertamina, Dedi, 58, was the CEO of insurance company Asuransi Kredit Indonesia. He also had a spell at state-run bank BRI prior to that.
Erick said earlier he won't hesitate to discharge Pertamina directors if there's no significant improvement in the company's health, safety, security, and environment system.
