Tangerang. East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said on Friday that the province has already achieved full food self-sufficiency and now holds one of the strongest food stock positions in Indonesia.

Speaking during a visit to B-Universe Media Holdings in Pantai Indah Kapuk 2, Khofifah noted that food security has been a priority program of the Indonesian government and that East Java is now positioned as a model.

“Food security is one of the President’s flagship programs. I often say that East Java has actually reached the level of food sovereignty,” she said.

According to Khofifah, East Java has more than adequate stocks of rice, beef, milk, and chicken, supported by the province’s leading agricultural sector.

“East Java is the country’s food granary because our production of rice, paddy and corn is the highest in Indonesia. Our stocks of beef, milk, chicken, and eggs are also the highest,” she said.

Khofifah added that East Java is ready to form partnerships with other provinces so that regions can grow and prosper together. The province has also expanded trade missions abroad — including to Singapore, where East Java recorded Rp 4.1 trillion ($245.6 million) in transactions.

East Java is currently exploring business and trade cooperation with Malaysia, with an estimated transaction potential of Rp 3.95 trillion, she said.

Khofifah also noted that East Java ranks first nationally in export volume from the creative-economy sector, reflecting the province’s diversification beyond agriculture and livestock.

Khofifah is the first female governor of East Java. She began her second term in February, after previously serving from 2019 to 2024.
