Jakarta. The Indonesian government has disbursed nearly half of its Rp 55 trillion ($3.3 billion) Ramadan bonus for civil servants, police officers, and military personnel, Deputy Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara said on Wednesday.

The annual bonus — equivalent to one month’s salary — is intended to help government employees prepare for Eid al-Fitr, the holiday marking the end of the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan. The benefit is provided to all government workers and retirees, including non-Muslims.

“As of March 10, Rp 24.7 trillion, or about 45% of the total Rp 55 trillion allocation, has been distributed as the holiday allowance,” Suahasil said during a press conference in Jakarta.

The payments will reach more than 10 million recipients, including both current and retired employees from central and regional government institutions.

Suahasil urged all government agencies to ensure that the bonuses are paid to their employees before Eid al-Fitr.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said this year’s budget for the bonus increased by around 10% compared with Rp 49 trillion allocated last year.

The disbursement began on Feb. 26 and will continue in stages until no later than one week before Eid al-Fitr, which is expected to fall on March 21.

Airlangga said around 2.4 million central government employees, including civil servants, police officers, and military personnel, will receive bonuses totaling Rp 22.2 trillion. About 4.3 million regional government employees will receive Rp 20.2 trillion, while roughly 3.8 million retirees nationwide will receive payments totaling Rp 12.7 trillion.
