Gen-Z Investors Drive Growth as Indonesia Hits 19.1 Million SID
Bali. Indonesia’s capital market has reached 19.1 million registered investors, signaling strong growth in domestic participation, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) reported.
Inarno Djajadi, OJK’s Executive in Charge of Capital Market, Derivatives, and Carbon Exchange Supervision, announced the milestone during the 2025 Capital Market Journalist Workshop in Gianyar, Bali, on Saturday.
“Our Single Investor Identification (SID) now stands at 19.1 million. This is a remarkable achievement, from just 1 million investors in the past, we have reached 19.1 million today,” Inarno said.
OJK aims to surpass 20 million investors by mid-2026, focusing primarily on retail investors while encouraging institutional participation to play a larger role in the domestic capital market.
Deputy Commissioner Eddy Manindo Harahap said that as of Nov. 7, the total number of investors had reached 19.32 million SID, a 29.91 percent increase from 14.87 million in 2024. The surge included 4.2 million new investors, more than double the annual target of 2 million.
The demographic profile shows young investors driving growth: 54.2 percent of the total market is under 30 years old. Eddy emphasized that as young investors increase their income and wealth, their investment in the capital market is expected to grow accordingly.
Geographically, investor participation is heavily concentrated on Java (69.22 percent), followed by Sumatra (15.99 percent) and Sulawesi (5.24 percent).
“In the future, we remain optimistic that the market will continue expanding,” Eddy said, highlighting the ongoing potential for Indonesia’s capital market to attract broader domestic participation.
OJK’s roadmap for 2023–2027 envisions steady growth of retail and institutional investors to strengthen market liquidity and deepen Indonesia’s financial ecosystem.
