BNI Investor Daily Summit: Fostering Economic Confidence Amid Global Challenges
Jakarta. Amidst the uncertainties plaguing the world economy, Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) continues to convey messages of optimism, particularly to investors and stakeholders in the national and global economy through the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2023.
This message was delivered by BNI's President Director, Royke Tumilaar, during his presentation at the BNI Investor Daily Summit (IDS) 2023, held at Hutan Kota by Plataran, Senayan, Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to Royke, optimism is especially important post-COVID-19 pandemic, noting that Indonesia has hosted high-profile global events, including the G-20 and ASEAN summits, and improved bilateral collaborations with economic partner countries.
"Furthermore, the construction of mega-projects in the new national capital (Nusantara), the acceleration of green economic transition, and the strengthening of the national technology industry are on the horizon," Royke said.
Nevertheless, he highlighted several conditions that warrant caution, particularly the impact of the Federal Reserve's interest rates, the geopolitical landscape in Russia and Ukraine, conflicts in the Middle East, pressures on China's property sector, and the monetary policies of numerous countries striving to address inflation and stagflation.
"However, despite facing global inflation pressures and the uncertainty in the global economy, we believe that the Indonesian economy continues to show positive signs of recovery," he affirmed.
In the second quarter of 2023, Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) registered a 5.17 percent growth compared to the same period in the previous year. Indonesia's trade balance has maintained a surplus for 41 consecutive months. In September 2023, Indonesia recorded a surplus of US$3.42 billion, an improvement over August 2023's surplus of US$3.12 billion. Inflation has also been under control, standing at 2.28 percent in September 2023, as compared to 5.95 percent seen in September 2022.
Royke said BNI consistently leverages the positive economic growth momentum in 2023. State-owned BNI is dedicated to optimizing the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2023 to showcase its role amid issues faced by Indonesia and the global economy.
Additionally, Royke stated that BNI offers a range of service solutions and programs relevant to the development needs of Indonesia's economy moving forward.
"The BNI IDS 2023 has adopted the theme 'Sustainable Growth, Global Challenges.' This two-day forum, taking place from October 24 to 25, 2023, serves as a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas on promoting sustainable economic growth amidst global challenges," he added.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and B-Universe Chairman Enggartiasto officially opened the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2023. Around 3,000 participants including representatives of 500 national and international companies and institutions, attended Indonesia's largest investment forum.
President Jokowi said the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2023 boosts investor confidence and promotes investment in Indonesia.
"This event is excellent, as it encourages investment and instills confidence in investors regarding Indonesia. Without events like this, investments, both domestic and foreign, wouldn't be adequately stimulated. Events like this should be more frequent," Jokowi said in his opening remarks.
