Average Indonesian Spends Rp 13.37 Million A Year, Jakartans Much Higher
Jakarta. The average Indonesian spends almost Rp 13.37 million (around $740.8) each year as of 2026, according to the statistics agency BPS, but the figure can be considerably higher for Jakartans.
The annual adjusted real expenditure per capita in Indonesia — whose third-quarter growth has outperformed expectations — continues to be on the rise. In other words, people are consuming more goods and services, which BPS considers an improvement in the country’s living standards.
“So the expenditure has risen by around Rp 566,000 [$31.34] compared to 2025 levels [of Rp 12.80 million or $707.6],” BPS deputy Moh Edy Mahmud told a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday.
A separate presser by BPS’ Jakarta office exposed dramatic contrasts. The average Jakartan spends Rp 21.43 million (approximately $1,186) annually in 2026, up by 3.65% year-on-year (yoy).
BPS, however, used South Jakarta — which is known for hosting lifestyle hotspots and expatriate communities — as the benchmark for its analysis, while basing the calculations on 2012 constant market prices. In the country’s easternmost region of Papua, the adjusted real per capita expenditure is only Rp 11.57 million ($640.58), falling short of the national average.
The nationwide expenditure per capita has been on an upward trend. It reached only Rp 11.48 million ($635.89) in 2022 before growing to Rp 11.90 million ($659.16) the following year. The adjusted real expenditure per capita reached Rp 12.34 million ($683.24) in 2024.
Indonesia’s economy expanded 5.47% yoy in the third quarter of 2026, the highest in recent years.
