Residents of Greges, a kampung in Surabaya, East Java, created a 500-meter long Indonesian flag that they unfurled during a Youth Pledge Day commemoration on Sunday. The Youth Pledge or Sumpah Pemuda was a declaration made by young Indonesian nationalists on Oct. 28, 1928, during a Youth Congress when the country was still a Dutch colony known as the Dutch East Indies. The pledge declared three ideals for Indonesia's then-nascent nationalist movement: one motherland, one nation and one language.
