Indonesia Earmarks $6.2 Billion for Sumatra Disaster Recovery
Jakarta. Indonesia has earmarked Rp100.1 trillion ($5.59 billion) over three years to accelerate post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra, Interior Minister Tito Karnavian said Wednesday.
The funding will be allocated based on a government master plan covering reconstruction needs across the three provinces, Tito said at a press conference in Jakarta.
“President Prabowo has directed the government to allocate Rp100.1 trillion over three years based on the master plan,” Tito said.
The master plan was prepared by the National Development Planning Ministry (Bappenas) based on proposed programs and activities submitted by ministries, government agencies, and local administrations in the affected provinces. It was subsequently discussed with the House of Representatives (DPR) before being submitted to the president for approval of the required funding.
The government has also provided direct fiscal support to affected local governments through unexpected expenditure funds, with provinces receiving around Rp 20 billion each and regencies and municipalities around Rp 4 billion each. The support totaled about Rp 268 billion.
An additional Rp 10.6 trillion in regional transfers was provided to local governments in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra in February 2026.
The government provided another nearly Rp 196 billion on Aug. 5 to help accelerate rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
At the central government level, the finance minister has approved funding for 25 ministries and government agencies totaling around Rp38.5 trillion.
The government will next focus on synchronizing programs carried out by ministries and government agencies with those of local administrations, Tito said.
Ministries and agencies that have received funding will regularly report their planned activities to affected local governments, with updates provided every Wednesday to ensure regional administrations are informed about projects being carried out in their areas.
The post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction program covers multiple sectors, including education, roads and bridges, health, agriculture and fisheries.
