Jakarta. Sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) have increased in the first half of 2024, despite a weakening automotive market in the country.

According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) released on Wednesday, wholesale sales of hybrid cars contributed 6 percent to the national car sales of 408,012 units, totaling 24,775 units.

Hybrid car sales rose to 24,775 units from 17,305 units in the same period last year, marking a 43.1 percent increase. Gaikindo has urged the government to provide incentives for hybrid cars, including access to odd-even area restrictions.

The Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid led sales with 10,074 units, followed closely by the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid at 4,945 units. The Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid ranked third with 2,391 units, followed by the Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid with 2,077 units, and the Honda CR-V e with 1,639 units.
