Solo. Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka announced on Wednesday that major investments in artificial intelligence technology, including from computer chip maker Nvidia, will materialize later this year.

The elected vice president said the California-based technology company will open an AI computing school with an investment of Rp 3 trillion ($187 million) at Solo Techno Park (STP) in the Central Java city.

“God willing, we can commence the projects later this year. We have prepared the MoU, the project timeline, and the school building,” Gibran told reporters in Solo.

“STP has been selected as the venue for the facility. It will host two new facilities: the first is Emirates Hospital, a cardiology center with the latest medical technology, and the second facility is an AI school with Nvidia’s investment,” he added.

The AI school will be informal in nature, more like a professional training service.

Gibran, who will be installed as the country’s youngest vice president, said he recently discussed AI development with former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, whose son will visit Solo in the near future.

Additionally, Solo will receive investment from cellular operator Indosat, which recently launched its 5G service in the city, he said.
