President Jokowi Meets with Microsoft CEO to Discuss AI Development in Indonesia

Jakarta. Microsoft's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella met with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday to discuss infrastructure investment in artificial intelligence (AI) and the establishment of research centers in Indonesia.

"Satya and the President discussed the development of natural resources and the establishment of a research center in Indonesia in collaboration with Microsoft and the Indonesian Government, especially focusing on the development of digital talent in the field of AI," explained Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi, who accompanied Jokowi during the meeting, at a press conference in the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta.

During the meeting, Satya Nadella expressed Microsoft's desire to collaborate with the Indonesian Government to establish a research center in the country.

Budi mentioned that Satya Nadella would invest in Indonesia for 4 years to build AI infrastructure and provide training opportunities for 840,000 people.

"Satya conveyed to President Joko Widodo that Microsoft will make significant investments in Indonesia over the next 4 years in cloud computing," he said.

Budi explained that Microsoft also expressed its desire to support the development of developer communities in Indonesia, such as the AI Odyssey program, which is expected to reach 10,000 developers with Microsoft credentials.

Although Budi Arie did not disclose the exact value of the investment that Microsoft would pour into Indonesia, he stated that this investment is the largest in Microsoft's business history over its 29 years in Indonesia.
