Digital Sector Generates $615 Million in Taxes for Indonesia in 2025
Jakarta. The Indonesian government has collected Rp 10.21 trillion ($615 million) in taxes from the digital economy sector between January and September 2025, reflecting the sector’s growing role as a major contributor to national revenue.
According to Rosmauli, spokesperson for the Directorate General of Taxes, the strong performance highlights how digital businesses have become an increasingly important pillar of Indonesia’s tax base.
“The realization shows that the digital sector is now a new engine of Indonesia’s tax revenue,” Rosmauli said in a press statement on Wednesday.
Of the total, e-commerce value-added tax (VAT) accounted for Rp 7.6 trillion, followed by crypto-asset taxes at Rp 621.3 billion, fintech and peer-to-peer (P2P) lending taxes at Rp 1.06 trillion, and taxes from the government’s e-procurement information systems at Rp 931.1 billion.
From 2020 to 2025, cumulative e-commerce VAT receipts have reached Rp 32.94 trillion ($2 billion), Rosmauli said.
In September 2025, the government appointed five new e-commerce VAT collectors, including Viagogo GMBH, Coursiv Limited, Ogury Singapore Pte. Ltd, BMI GlobalEd Limited, and GetYourGuide Tours & Tickets GmbH.
Meanwhile, taxes on cryptocurrency transactions, which have been imposed since 2022, have generated a total of Rp 1.71 trillion, comprising Rp 836.36 billion in income tax (PPh) and Rp 872.62 billion in VAT.
Taxes from P2P lending activities have also risen steadily, contributing Rp 4.1 trillion between 2022 and 2025.
