Tanoto Foundation Opens 2026 Education Journalism Competition, Offers Rp 100 Million in Funding
Jakarta. Tanoto Foundation has opened its 2026 Education Journalism Competition, offering a total of Rp 100 million in funding for 20 selected proposals from journalists across Indonesia to produce in-depth coverage of education issues. Applications are open until Nov. 9, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Jakarta time.
Through the annual competition, Tanoto Foundation aims to bring greater public attention to education issues through in-depth, fact-based journalism that addresses community needs. The resulting reports are expected to broaden public understanding of education challenges and encourage constructive discussions to improve Indonesia's education sector.
“Education issues should not only be reported when new policies are introduced or problems arise. The public also needs to understand how education policies and programs are implemented, the challenges faced on the ground, and their impact on children, teachers and families,” said Patrick Hutajulu, External Communications Lead at Tanoto Foundation.
“Through this competition, we want to support journalists in producing in-depth, fact-based and inspiring coverage, giving the public a more comprehensive picture of education issues and opening up more opportunities for discussions that can drive improvement,” he added.
This year's competition covers three main themes: early childhood development and education, basic education, and higher education. Each theme includes several subthemes to help participants develop reporting proposals based on relevant issues and the specific contexts of their respective regions.
Of the proposals submitted, 20 will be selected to receive funding and proceed to the reporting and publication stages. At the end of the competition, three outstanding works will receive additional awards.
