Jakarta. Financing firm PNM recently launched its Kampung Madani (‘Civil Kampong’) initiative in Wukirsari Village.

Wukirsari boasts huge potential in shadow puppet business. This prompted PNM to launch “Kampung Madani” -- an initiative aimed at building an integrated village ecosystem. As part of the initiative, PNM is hoping to spur the local economic growth by increasing the socio-economic welfare of the community through the shadow puppet craft program,  while also developing programs to increase literacy for their customers, their families, and the local communities.

Bantul regent Abdul Halim Muslih alongside Wukirsari village head Susilo Hapsoro inaugurated the Madani Village program.  A hundred people, including customers and local residents, also got to have free health check-ups during the inauguration.

PNM Yogyakarta Branch Leader, Danang Setya Budi, said that PNM, as an institution that focuses on empowering ultra-micro business actors, is committed to encouraging customers and village communities to make more contributions.

“In Kampung Madani, we have set up Tatah Sungging craftsman group who have received training. They have now helped provide jobs, and can now make new product innovations from shadow puppet crafts,” Danang said.

PNM’s president director Arief Mulyadi also encouraged the villagers to work with one another to unlock the village’s full potential.

"Kampung Madani exists as a forum for discussion and business development so villagers can level up together. This calls for a collaboration between all villagers, whether they are PNM customers or not, so that they can become a shadow puppet center that competes on a global scale,” Arief said.
