PLN Mobilizes Tens of Thousands of Workers for Clean Energy Day
Jakarta. PT PLN (Persero) has officially launched its Clean Energy Day campaign, a strategic initiative aimed at fostering a more efficient, eco-friendly, and sustainable work culture. The program encourages employees across Indonesia to use environmentally friendly transportation every Friday as part of efforts to reduce fossil fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
The initiative, launched on April 10, 2026, aligns with the government’s directive to maximize fuel savings amid global geopolitical uncertainty and reinforces the state utility company's commitment to leading the country’s energy transition.
Yusuf Didi Setiarto, PLN’s Director of Legal Affairs and Human Capital Management, said the initiative goes beyond a simple call to action, representing a broader shift in mindset and collective behavior among more than 37,000 employees.
“As part of our commitment to implementing government directives, we are launching Clean Energy Day to transform our work culture into one that is more efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable. Through collective action, we are optimistic this initiative will deliver tangible results in reducing national fuel consumption and cutting carbon emissions,” Didi said.
As part of the program, PLN has introduced a “Fuel-Free Parking” policy at all offices every Friday, encouraging employees to use public transportation—including KRL, MRT, LRT, and BRT—electric vehicles, bicycles, or to walk.
Beyond transportation, Clean Energy Day also targets operational efficiency. PLN has cut business travel by 50–70% and increased the use of virtual meetings to streamline coordination.
To support implementation, PLN has integrated the program into an internal app that allows employees to log their daily travel activities, with data monitored in real time. The system will also be used to recognize employees and work units with the highest participation rates.
During its inaugural run on April 10, the initiative reduced carbon emissions by 28,600 kilograms of CO₂—an average of 2.9 kilograms per employee. It also generated fuel savings of approximately 12,400 liters, equivalent to around Rp153 million ($8,900) in energy cost savings in a single day.
“This is our movement for the future—a new approach that promotes efficiency while maintaining productivity. We want to show that working in a greener way is a source of pride and a new standard at PLN,” Didi said.
